Architecture Studio 4

Project 1: A Personal Space for an Elderly Person

The first studio project requires students to conduct a short project on designing a space for a client from an elderly home. In groups of three, we were required to interview an elderly person and design a personal space for the client.

The project starts with a site visit to an elderly home. We were to analyze the three sites and select a location. From there, we would select a site with proper justification.

Through our own observations and interview with the client we then designed a space no bigger than 12 meter cube.

We were graded on our understanding of our client, ergonomics, anthropometrics, function, and how we convey the needs of the user into the space.

Below are our drawings, sketches, renderings, presentation boards and model.

Project 2A: Center for the elderly

Project 2 is a two part project. The first part involves an in-depth study and analysis of the given site, located in Taman Kanagapuram. Tasks were divided to each member of the group. Submission requires a detail, compiled overview of our analysis covering topics of both macro and micro site.

Below is a copy of the final presentation board done by my group and I.

Project 2B

2nd Part of the project is an individual project that requires students to design an elderly care center at the given site located in Taman Kanagapuram.

From our analysis from project 2A, we began by creating visceral boards for our own understanding of the site. Doing this, we were able to derive a concept from the visceral quality we found from site.

Project requirements consists of 2-3 storeys for building height, approximate floor area of 800 sqm. appropriate facilities to be applied such as entertainments and social spaces, recreation and exercise spaces and so on. Parking lots and considerations of the disabled were must also be considered.

Final project requires 4 A1 sized boards with sketches, orthographics, design process and concept diagrams and site analysis. A final model is also expected.
