ENVIRONMENT AND TECHNOLOGY II (ARC71003)

Final Project : Synthesis - Integrated Design

The module emphasizes the role of building technology and sustainability in architectural design through an analysis and evaluation of a complex building or group of buildings. It addresses architecture as an integration of the environment, technology and building. These three factors are considered as holistic components of architectural design, which may be critically assessed with theories. Specific topics of environment and technology are isolated out for investigation. The module equips students with knowledge of building science and skills in the use of information and digital technology to inform design and to support the design resolution of students’ Architectural Design Thesis, particularly with respect to architectonic and technological aspects.

Using the Design Studio project, you will be required to provide the following:
a) Propose devices that can improve the indoor environment for the users in a habitable space. Analyse and identify the optimum option associated with visual, thermal and site environmental matter by using the appropriate methodology. Provide the necessary data, choice of materials and examples (if any) to support your proposal. (Floor plan, section and elevation 1:50 or appropriate scale).
b) Demonstrate the application of firefighting principles namely the firefighting access, evacuation and passive containment, designed for the project. Provide appropriate plans and specifications regarding the relevant standards and regulations available. (Site plan at 1:500, floor plans at 1:100 or appropriate scale, diagrams)
c) Draw schematic diagrams for water supply and rainwater harvesting that shows the distribution system from its source to the last point of supply. Provide adequate technical specifications for the proposed system. (Not to scale)
