Building Structures

The module introduces students principles of selecting structural systems and designing  elements and structures. It is also an introduction to structural analysis, deflections, structural design and building codes. 

Project 1 - Roof Truss

This project introduces students to the fundamental functions and properties of roof trusses and how they affect a building. In a group of  5, students were required to  use a member's studio design and apply roof trusses to its design. We were to redesign the roof by using truss design. 

Below is the presentation board, 3d model and physical roof model done by my group and I. 

Individually, we were needed to mathematically analyze different truss systems. An A4 compilation of truss analysis calculations is provided below.

Project 2 - Structural Analysis of a bungalow

In groups, students are required to design a 2-storey bungalow and carry out the structural framing of the building. 

Individually, students are to analyze at least 6 beams and 2 columns on the building. A compilation of the entire analysis are done in an A4 sized report.
